Christmas may be over, but its effects often linger—heavy meals, sweet treats, late nights, disrupted sleep, and the physical toll of nonstop celebration.
While enjoying the festivities is part of the joy, many people emerge from the season feeling bloated, sluggish, dehydrated, and completely drained.
The good news? Your body has an incredible ability to bounce back. With a few intentional, gentle steps, you can help restore balance, re-energise, and transition smoothly from holiday mode back into your everyday routine.
1. Rehydrate, and then hydrate some more
Alcohol consumption during the holidays often leads to dehydration, which can cause fatigue, bloating, headaches, and low energy. Alcohol strips the body of fluids, leaving you feeling out of sync.
Start your reset by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Proper hydration helps flush out toxins, restore lost fluids, and support digestion. You can also include coconut water, fresh fruit juices, or electrolyte-rich drinks to replenish essential minerals.
If you indulged in salty or sodium-heavy foods, increasing your water intake becomes even more important. Reducing salt intake the following day and drinking enough fluids can help reduce water retention and ease bloating.
2. Choose light, nourishing meals
After days of heavy eating, your digestive system needs a break. Rich meals can slow digestion, leading to discomfort and bloating.
Opt for lighter foods such as fruits, vegetables, soups, and whole grains. These are easier to digest and help your stomach recover. Instead of eating by the clock, listen to your body’s cues and keep portions small and mindful.
Herbal teas—especially ginger or peppermint—can also soothe the digestive system and help relieve bloating.

3. Make rest and sleep a priority
Late nights, long outings, travel, and festive activities—popularly known as Detty December—often throw sleep routines off balance, leaving the body exhausted.
Rather than pushing through fatigue, give yourself permission to slow down. Go to bed earlier, limit screen time at night, and take short naps if needed. Quality sleep is one of the most powerful ways to reset your body, restore energy, strengthen immunity, and speed up recovery.
4. Move gently
Overeating and holiday stress can leave the body feeling stiff, heavy, or worn out. Instead of diving straight into intense workouts, ease back into movement gradually.
Gentle activities like walking, stretching, or yoga improve circulation, support digestion, and gently reactivate your metabolism without overwhelming your system. Even a short walk around your neighbourhood can lift your mood and help you feel more like yourself again.
