A Christian group under the aegis of This Present House has taken its Keep Environment Clean campaign to Lekki.

According to a statement on Tuesday, the group said the exercise was part of its corporate social responsibility.

“As part of its drive to engage with its host community, This Present House, in its second and final week of community outreach to mark Nigeria’s Independence, took to the streets en-masse cleaning the streets of Lekki Phase 1, Agungi, Chevrons Drive and other communities within Lekki. The Church also delivered waste bins, rakes, broomsticks, cleaning agents and other materials to households and individuals,” the statement partly reads.

The Senior Pastor, Mr Jude Nwoko, while handing over the waste bins to the representative of the Lekki Resident Association said the group was interested in being part of the solution in nation-building.

“This is one of many initiatives the church will embark on in the coming months. The rain did not stop the members of the church as they went on to clean the streets, going through the neighbourhood, picking up trash, cleaning the gutters and clearing littered streets,” Nwoko said.

In a related development, the group also organised a walk, tagged ‘Lekki Prayer Walk,’ as part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 61st Independence.

“As the nation celebrated her independence, members of This Present House, came out in their numbers making declarations and prayers for the nation. The 17km walk saw over 500 participants take to the streets of Lekki phase 1.

“It is worthy to note that the senior pastor of This Present House church, Dr Tony Rapu, who is the founder of the initiative of Operation Better Life, an initiative recently inaugurated with support of the state government to take youths who abuse drugs off the streets,” the statement added.
